Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida

Fort Myers, FL

In 1994, Golisano Children’s Hospital was officially recognized as a comprehensive children’s hospital. At that time it was essentially a “hospital-within-a-hospital” inside HealthPark Medical Center. The new facility that opened in 2017—which is America’s newest children’s hospital—is located next door to HealthPark Medical Center. Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida is now a 128-bed, nearly 300,000-square-foot, seven-story, state-of-the-art facility that consolidates into one location the medical and ancillary specialty services required to treat critically ill and injured children in a five-county region. The facility, which officially opened for patients in May 2017, has future expansion capabilities up to 160 beds. The goal and mission of the hospital is to keep children close to home for the medical care they require. The hospital provides vital health care for the region’s sick and injured children and their families, from infancy through age 21. Golisano Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital between Tampa and Miami and is an active member of both the Children’s Hospital Association and the Florida Association of Children’s Hospitals. For two years in a row, in 2016 and 2017, Golisano Children’s Hospital’s leading-edge, safe, high quality care was recognized when it was named a “Top Hospital” in the U.S. by The Leapfrog Group; only nine children’s hospitals were named to the list in 2016 and 10 children’s hospitals were included in 2017. While visually beautiful on the outside, it is the beauty within that truly makes Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida the most beautiful hospital in the country.
