Norton Sound Regional Hospital
The Norton Sound Regional Hospital is the medical hub for the Bering Strait region, including Nome and 15 surrounding villages. It was the vision of the regional tribes, who own and operate the corporation, to build a beautiful facility that would allow patients to feel at home, even if they were only visiting. The hospital is covered with windows on all sides that look out on the surrounding landscape of tundra and sea and fill the interior with natural light. Artwork from all parts of the region is prominently displayed on each of the three main floors. A central main stairwell and open flooring plan invite a warm and friendly flow throughout the facility, even when arctic conditions can persist outdoors.
