Soliant is currently seeking an school Sign Language Interpreter for 2023-2024 As a contracted school sign language interpreter, you will work closely with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring effective communication and equal access to educational opportunities. Your primary responsibility will be to interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa, facilitating seamless communication between students, teachers, and other school staff.
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, school events, meetings, and other relevant activities.
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and translate ASL into spoken language accurately and efficiently.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with hearing impairments.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure effective communication and integration of students' individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Remain up-to-date on current best practices and developments in sign language interpretation.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Certification or licensure as a sign language interpreter (e.g., RID certification, EIPA certification).
- Experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to the needs of diverse learners.
- Knowledge of deaf culture and awareness of issues related to deafness and hearing impairment.
