Braillist Needed in Evergreen School District

Job Title: Full-time Braillist

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Caseload: 1:1 High school

Responsibilities:

• Provide braille support to students with visual impairments in a high school setting
• Transcribe textbooks, instructional materials, and other educational resources into braille
• Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to ensure that braille materials are provided in a timely manner
• Conduct braille assessments to determine students' individual needs and develop appropriate braille instruction plans
• Provide direct instruction and support to students in braille literacy skills, including reading and writing
• Monitor and document student progress in braille proficiency
• Collaborate with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to develop and implement appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with visual impairments
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of braille services provided

Qualifications:

• Certification as a Braillist or proficiency in braille transcription
• Experience working with students with visual impairments preferred
• Knowledge of braille code and proficiency in braille transcription
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Effective communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Flexibility and adaptability in a school environment
