We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team for the Extended School Year (ESY) Program in Archbald, PA. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, teaching them skills for safe and independent travel within their environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments
- Conduct assessments to determine students' travel skills and needs
- Teach students techniques for safe and independent travel, including cane use, sensory awareness, and spatial orientation
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other members of the educational team to ensure a coordinated approach to student support
- Provide training and support to staff members regarding the unique needs of students with visual impairments
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and services provided
- Attend team meetings, professional development activities, and other required sessions as necessary
Requirements:
- Active license and certifications as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the state of Pennsylvania
- Previous experience working in a school setting is required
- Knowledge of best practices and strategies for teaching orientation and mobility skills to students with visual impairments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to adapt instruction and techniques to meet the individual needs of students
- Must provide or obtain all necessary PA clearances prior to employment
