Full-Time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Requirements:
Applicants must meet all local and state requirements to apply. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a state-approved CNA training program and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Current and valid CNA license issued by the State of Michigan.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing practice, patient care, and student health services.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in healthcare or educational settings preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in working with students, families, and staff.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and providing compassionate and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist school nurses and health professionals in providing direct care and support to students with medical needs and disabilities, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
  • Support students with chronic health conditions, disabilities, or special needs in accessing educational activities, programs, and services, and assist with mobility, positioning, feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene tasks as necessary.
  • Provide one-on-one care and supervision to students with complex medical needs or disabilities, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being during school hours and extracurricular activities.
  • Implement individualized health care plans (IHCPs), emergency action plans (EAPs), and other medical protocols and procedures developed by healthcare providers and school personnel to address students' specific health needs and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Collaborate with school nurses, teachers, administrators, and related service providers to develop and implement strategies, accommodations, and modifications to support students' participation in educational and extracurricular activities and promote their overall health and development.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders regarding students' health status, medical needs, and progress, and provide updates, reports, and documentation as required.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student health assessments, medical treatments, medication administration, and related documentation, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements regarding student health records and confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional development activities, training sessions, and staff meetings to enhance knowledge and skills in pediatric nursing, school health services, and best practices for supporting students with medical needs and disabilities in educational settings.
  • Uphold professional ethics, standards of practice, and institutional policies and procedures, and collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to promote a positive and inclusive school culture that prioritizes student health, safety, and well-being.
