A role is available for an experienced professional specializing in anatomic pathology within a dynamic healthcare environment. This position requires expertise in pathology assistance to support surgical and post-mortem examinations under the supervision of qualified pathologists. The position operates on a contract basis and is located in Detroit, MI, providing an opportunity to contribute to high-quality pathology services in a reputable health system.

Responsibilities include assisting with the gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens, properly identifying and accessioning specimens, and preparing tissue sections for a variety of microscopic analyses. The role also involves quality control measures such as maintaining specimen identification accuracy, managing inventory of lab supplies, and supporting frozen section procedures. Additionally, this position plays an important role in resident training and competency assessment, as well as tumor procurement for biorepositories and autopsy performance from external examinations through tissue submission and documentation.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in surgical specimen grossing and dissection techniques
  • Experience with specimen accessioning and identification protocols
  • Knowledge of frozen and permanent tissue section preparation
  • Ability to perform autopsies including organ inspection and dissection
  • Skilled in quality assurance and quality control procedures within pathology labs
  • Competency in assisting with resident training and evaluation
