Our school is located near Chase, Alabama, and we are currently seeking a highly skilled and passionate Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to join our team for summer and next school year. As an SLI, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication and promoting equal access to education for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Job Description: As a Sign Language Interpreter, your primary responsibility will be to facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and other school staff. You will be an integral part of our educational team, ensuring that students have equal opportunities to participate in classroom activities and receive a quality education. Your duties and responsibilities will include:

• Providing sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, school activities, and events.
• Assisting students in understanding and expressing spoken language through sign language.
• Translating written materials into sign language for students.
• Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to create an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
• Adhering to professional standards, ethical guidelines, and maintaining confidentiality.
• Keeping accurate records of interpreted sessions and student progress.

Qualifications:

• Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) or equivalent.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with other sign systems.
• Strong knowledge of deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Experience working in an educational setting is preferred but not required.
