A skilled Registered Nurse with experience in medical-surgical nursing is needed for a contract position at a correctional healthcare facility in Des Plaines, IL. This role offers a dynamic and challenging environment where nursing expertise supports the care of incarcerated patients within a correctional setting. Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced schedule and the unique demands of correctional health services.
Shift and Schedule:
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (11:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.)
- Every other weekend required (2 weekends per month)
- Guaranteed 36 hours weekly
- RTO (request time off) limited to 5 days monthly without exceeding 2 consecutive days; no RTO allowed on holidays, the day before or after holidays, or on weekends
- Mandatory floating within facility departments as needed
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in medical-surgical nursing
- Previous correctional facility nursing experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Must live within 75 miles of the facility; local candidates preferred
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients within the correctional healthcare unit
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
- Adhere to all safety and security protocols specific to correctional settings
- Utilize electronic health records for documentation (Cerner system)
