CVOR Nurse - Racine, WI

A specialized opportunity exists for an experienced CVOR Registered Nurse with surgical assist expertise to support complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. This contract role is based in Racine, WI, at a renowned Level III Trauma Center recognized for Magnet status and as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The facility operates 8 Cardiovascular Operating Rooms and manages a high volume of advanced cases daily.

Responsibilities include circulating during cases involving CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypasses. You will collaborate closely with a surgical team consisting of two RNs per case, serving specifically as the circulating nurse. Precision, autonomy, and clinical expertise in a fast-paced cardiovascular surgical environment are essential.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Current RN licensure with at least 2 years of surgical assist experience in a CVOR setting
• Strong ability to work independently on complex cardio and thoracic surgical cases
• Certification in BLS required; CSFA preferred
• Proficient with EPIC electronic health records and familiar with perioperative equipment such as Alaris pumps, Pyxis systems, and DaVinci XI robotics
• Experience in high-acuity environments with capability to manage patient ratios of 1:1
• Familiarity with surgical pain score documentation and medication administration protocols

Schedule & On-Call:

• Typical start times between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM
• Weekend on-call rotation once per month (24-hour shifts Saturday/Sunday)
• Holiday coverage is on-call only
• Fatigue management policy limits work hours to no more than 60 hours per week or five consecutive twelve-hour shifts
• Up to 7 days vacation with approval; 2-week orientation provided
