A 12-hour night shift nursing opportunity in an emergency department setting is currently available in Matthews, NC. This contract position involves providing comprehensive emergency care across a broad range of patient ages and conditions in a busy, well-equipped hospital environment. The role is suitable for experienced emergency department RNs seeking to apply critical care skills with supportive interdisciplinary teams.
Location: Matthews, NC is a thriving suburban community near Charlotte, offering a blend of residential comfort and urban amenities. The area provides easy access to shopping, dining, and outdoor activities with a welcoming atmosphere that balances small-town feel with metropolitan convenience.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver emergency nursing care for pediatric through geriatric patients in a 43-bed emergency department
- Manage patient assessments and monitor clinical status, including cardiac rhythm interpretation and administration of critical care drips
- Perform procedures such as PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, and conscious sedation
- Collaborate with physicians, APPs, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and social workers for efficient patient management
- Support patient flow in a fast-paced setting with an average census of 145 patients per day and a 25-30% admission rate
- Flexibly float among facilities within the designated region as needed, remaining within scope of practice
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies and emergency protocols using EPIC EMR and other clinical technology
Qualifications:
- Active RN license with minimum 2 years of emergency department experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI; TNCC preferred
- Demonstrated skills in critical care nursing, trauma stabilization, and emergency interventions
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts from 1900 to 0700, with every-other-weekend rotation and holiday coverage (approximately 75% of holidays)
- Willingness to float to various regional locations
