An opportunity is available for an experienced Neuro ICU nurse to provide critical care in a comprehensive stroke center setting. This contract role is based in Charlotte, NC, offering 36 hours per week on a night shift schedule. The position demands a strong neurocritical care background, with a focus on managing stroke patients and complex neurological conditions.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Neuro ICU nursing (strictly no exceptions)
- Proficient in ventilator management, IV starts, and central line care
- Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with blood product administration and continuous IV sedation
- Knowledge in CVA/acute stroke management, external ventricular drains (EVD), ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgery care
- Familiarity with lumbar drains and isolation precautions
- Valid certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH preferred
- Experience with arterial line management is a plus
- Prior traveler experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert care for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, craniotomies, carotid procedures, seizures, and other neurocritical diagnoses
- Manage specialized equipment: EVDs, lumbar drains, Camino ICP monitors, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun devices
- Maintain adherence to unit protocols and participate in float assignments as needed
- Work 12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15), averaging 3 shifts per week with every other weekend coverage
- Ensure patient ratios of 2:1, flexing up to 3:1 during high census periods
- Complete a 24-hour unit orientation prior to starting and pass EKG testing specific to this specialty
Schedule:
- Night shift, 12 hours (18:45 – 07:15)
- 36 hours per week, around 3 shifts
- Weekend coverage every other weekend
- Maximum 7 days RTO allowed, no call requirements
