An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with a strong Neuro ICU background to provide exceptional care in an intensive care setting specializing in neurological and stroke patients. This position requires a minimum of two years’ experience in Neuro ICU and offers a contract assignment in Gastonia, NC.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Neuro Intensive Care Unit nursing (strictly required)
  • Proficient in managing stroke patient care, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes
  • Experience with ventilators, IV starts, central line care, blood product administration, and continuous IV sedation
  • Skilled in interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
  • Familiar with external ventricular drains (EVD), intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, lumbar drains, and post-neurosurgery care
  • Certification in ACLS, BCLS, and NIHP required
  • Preferred skills: arterial line management
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to assignment start
  • Previous traveler experience preferred; first-time travelers will not be accepted

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide specialized nursing care to patients with complex neurological diagnoses including strokes, craniotomies, carotid procedures, aneurysm treatments, seizures, and related conditions
  • Manage equipment such as EVDs, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
  • Maintain patient safety and follow isolation precautions using appropriate PPE
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive stroke center care
  • Adhere to unit protocols and documentation systems including EPIC and SBAR

Schedule and Work Environment:

  • Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Average patient nurse ratio 2:1, flexible to 3:1 during high census
  • Weekend work every other weekend
  • Shift is 36 hours weekly
  • No call required; however, float assignments within the unit are expected
  • Orientation includes 24 hours over 2 days or nights
