Med-Surg Nurse (RN) in Huntersville, NC

This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic medical-surgical and telemetry environment in a major teaching hospital equipped with a Level I Trauma Center, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center. The position involves providing comprehensive care in the Acute Diagnosis and Treatment Unit (ADTU) and several satellite med-surg/telemetry units, focusing on decompressing the emergency and specialty care departments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with conditions such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, pulmonary embolism, and more
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage complex medical devices including chest tubes, tracheostomies, PCA pumps, and various drainage systems
• Administer and monitor medication drips including cardiac medications, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including CNAs, secretaries, resource nurses, respiratory therapists, and hospitalists for holistic patient care
• Manage telemetry effectively as part of daily responsibilities without tele monitoring technicians, providing shift-based interpretations
• Float within the specified regional network as necessary to meet patient care demands

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Valid RN license with at least 2 years of medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Proficiency in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and various invasive procedures (e.g., PIV starts, NGT placement, Foley catheter management)
• Familiarity with Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Ability to work weekends every other rotation and manage holiday schedule (approximately 75% of holidays)
• Comfortable floating across multiple facilities within the designated regional area
