An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with MedSurg and Telemetry experience to contribute to patient care in a reputable academic medical center in Lexington, NC. This contract role offers professional challenges in a Level 1 Trauma Designated teaching hospital with 885 licensed beds, including a 20-bed unit split evenly between 5A and 5B.
The selected nurse will provide excellent care to patients primarily in the Transitional Care and General MedSurg units, managing diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA patients, infections, wounds, and potentially some post-surgical cases. The patient-to-nurse ratio is approximately 5:1, allowing for focused and quality care.
Key responsibilities include managing tracheostomies, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Experience with central line blood draws and non-titrating drips such as Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix is required; knowledge of Cardizem and Amiodarone drips is preferred but not mandatory. Nurses will benefit from support provided by Certified Nursing Assistants, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and residents available 24/7. Technology in use includes the EPIC EMR system, Alariso IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current RN licensure with a minimum of 2 years MedSurg nursing experience.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Proficiency in telemetry, IV therapy, wound care, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
- Ability to float within scope amidst hospital departments.
- Experience with non-titrating IV drips.
Schedule and Work Environment:
- Night shift hours: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Weekend rotation every other weekend.
- Holiday work at 50% of holidays covered in contract.
- Scheduled in 6-week increments with schedule approval for time off.
- Uniform: Royal blue scrubs.
- Free parking on-site.
