A registered nurse skilled in oncology and medical-surgical care is needed for a contract assignment on a 52-bed med-surg orthopedic/surgical unit in Moundsville, WV. This role requires dedication to providing exceptional patient care in a setting offering mostly private rooms, supporting complex post-operative and medical cases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care on a med-surgical orthopedic unit
  • Manage post-operative patients including orthopedic, neurological, and general surgery recovery
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including hospitalists, intensivists, and respiratory therapists
  • Monitor patients, administer medications (including occasional drips such as Heparin and Ativan), and support patients on intermittent BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen
  • Use the Sunrise EMR system to document care
  • Participate in weekend and holiday rotations (every other weekend and holidays as needed)
  • Work 12-hour night shifts primarily (7 PM–7 AM) with schedules arranged in 6-week blocks

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Active RN license with experience in medical-surgical and oncology nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) considered a plus
  • Experience with peritoneal dialysis highly preferred
  • Familiarity with IV site assessment (IV team starts all lines) and emergency protocols
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with nursing assistants and charge nurses

Additional Details

  • 50-mile radius travel restriction for local candidates
  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; grey for CNAs
  • Patient ratios typically 1:7, occasionally 1:6
  • Assignment includes float opportunities to med-surg oncology and intermediate care areas
