This contract opportunity is based in Overland Park, KS, on a busy Orthopedics & Spine specialty unit within a Level 2 trauma center. The unit includes 36 private rooms and cares for patients with orthopedic injuries, neurological conditions such as stroke and head injuries, and trauma cases, providing a fast-paced and rewarding work environment. Nurses can expect to work alongside a skilled team on 3rd floor (Tower A), using advanced tools like iMobile, an innovative communication app accessible via iPhone devices to streamline unit workflow and protect patient privacy.

Shift hours are:

  • 06:45 AM to 07:15 PM (day shift)
  • 06:45 PM to 07:15 AM (night shift) The schedule includes rotating every 3rd weekend, with occasional adjustments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering acute care nursing on a medical/surgical unit focused on orthopedic and neurological patient populations
  • Performing wound care and dressing changes
  • Utilizing equipment such as traction devices, external fixators, walkers, gait belts, bed alarms, continuous pulse oximetry, and remote telemetry monitoring
  • Collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Documenting care in an EMR system (Meditech)

Qualifications and experience preferred:

  • Active Kansas RN license
  • Acute care hospital experience on med/surg or telemetry units
  • BLS certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
