A pediatric nursing opportunity is available in a specialized Oncology/Hematology unit that offers a challenging yet rewarding environment for experienced RNs. This contract position is based in Mooresville, NC, in a facility recognized as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center with advanced certifications and a strong teaching background. The unit features 24 beds, including bone marrow transplant care, with an average daily census of 22 patients ranging from neonates to adults who were pediatric patients.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ pediatric nursing experience with strong Oncology/Hematology expertise.
- Bone marrow transplant (BMT) experience highly preferred; first-time travelers with strong BMT skills welcome.
- Required certifications: BLS, PALS, and an APHON provider card.
- Essential nursing skills: Port access management, chemotherapy administration, blood product transfusions, cardiac rhythm interpretation, blood culture collection, central line care, management of PCA pumps, and heparin drips.
- Comfort with end-of-life care and critical care technologies is desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver nursing care to complex pediatric patients including those undergoing chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants.
- Manage high-acuity cases with patient ratios from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on acuity, focusing on personalized and safe care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, APPs, RTs, and phlebotomists.
- Utilize EPIC EMR system, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing for accurate documentation and medication administration.
- Participate in every-other-weekend rotations and fulfill holiday work obligations in consultation with management.
- Engage in a floating assignment to general pediatric medical units when required, excluding Main ER, PICU, and NICU.
- Adhere to unit protocols reinforced by technological support systems like patient monitoring and security.
