Job Title: Paraprofessional

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our educational team. The Paraprofessional will support teachers in providing a high-quality learning environment for students, including those with special needs. The ideal candidate will assist in implementing instructional, behavioral, and personal care programs for students, ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere conducive to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing lesson plans and activities.
  • Support students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Assist with classroom management and behavioral support as directed by the teacher.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, including lunch, recess, and transitions between classes.
  • Help with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.
  • Provide personal care assistance to students with disabilities, which may include feeding, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Monitor and report student progress and behavior to the classroom teacher.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents as needed.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, including maintaining student confidentiality.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate's degree, 60 semester hours of college coursework, or a Paraprofessional License through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is preferred.
  • Paraprofessional License: Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Illinois Paraprofessional License. This can be obtained with an associate's degree, 60 semester hours of college coursework, or by passing the ETS Parapro Assessment.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, especially in an educational setting, is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a commitment to supporting students' educational and personal development.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check as required by the Illinois State Board of Education and the school district.
  • Health Requirements: Must meet any health requirements, including a current tuberculosis (TB) test, as required by the school district.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with special needs.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and adaptive equipment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.

Working Conditions:

  • The position requires working in a classroom environment with exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • May require lifting and physical assistance for students with disabilities.
