Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and experienced Part-Time Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the 2023 school year in Archbald, PA. As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, equipping them with the skills necessary to navigate their environment independently and safely. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to empower students and promote their inclusion in educational and community settings.


  • Conduct assessments to determine students' orientation and mobility needs.
  • Develop individualized orientation and mobility plans and instructional strategies based on students' abilities and goals.
  • Teach students essential skills such as using mobility aids, sensory awareness, spatial concepts, and independent travel techniques.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals to integrate orientation and mobility instruction into students' individualized education programs (IEPs).
  • Provide ongoing support, consultation, and training to parents/guardians and school staff on strategies to promote students' independence and safety.
  • Conduct environmental assessments and provide recommendations for modifications to enhance accessibility for students with visual impairments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Stay current on best practices and advancements in the field of orientation and mobility.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and engage in continuous learning to enhance skills and knowledge.


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field.
  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist is required.
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of orientation and mobility techniques, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment.
  • Familiarity with special education laws and regulations related to students with visual impairments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for promoting independence and inclusivity for individuals with visual impairments.
