School Based Sign Language Interpreter

Soliant is seeking a highly skilled and motivated sign language interpreter to join our team as an elementary school sign language interpreter in Athens, Alabama . The ideal candidate will be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and have experience working with children in an educational setting.

Responsibilities:

• Provide interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a variety of classroom settings, including instruction, group discussions, and school-wide events
• Work closely with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure effective communication and equal access to educational opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Use various forms of sign language and interpreting techniques to facilitate communication between students and their peers, teachers, and staff
• Prepare and adapt instructional materials and assessments for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Work with the school's special education team to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Collaborate with other sign language interpreters and staff to ensure consistency in communication support across the school
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Requirements:

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• 3.0 EIPA Required. 
• Experience working with children in an educational setting
• Knowledge of educational interpreting practices and strategies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
