Soliant is seeking a highly skilled and motivated sign language interpreter to join our team as an elementary school sign language interpreter in Athens, Alabama . The ideal candidate will be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and have experience working with children in an educational setting.
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a variety of classroom settings, including instruction, group discussions, and school-wide events
- Work closely with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure effective communication and equal access to educational opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Use various forms of sign language and interpreting techniques to facilitate communication between students and their peers, teachers, and staff
- Prepare and adapt instructional materials and assessments for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Work with the school's special education team to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate with other sign language interpreters and staff to ensure consistency in communication support across the school
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Requirements:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- 3.0 EIPA Required.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting
- Knowledge of educational interpreting practices and strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
