Orientation Mobility Specialist (OMS) - Part-Time
Location: Kingston, NH
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Orientation Mobility Specialist (OMS) to join our team in Kingston, NH. This is a part-time position with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with visual impairments.
Responsibilities:
Provide orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments, assisting them in developing skills necessary for independent travel and orientation within their environment.
Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine students' orientation and mobility needs and develop individualized instruction plans.
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support the educational and developmental needs of students.
Regularly evaluate students' progress and make appropriate adjustments to instruction.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
Stay up-to-date with current trends and advancements in the field of orientation and mobility.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Orientation and Mobility, Special Education, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
Certification as an Orientation Mobility Specialist (COMS) through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).
Experience working with individuals with visual impairments, preferably in an educational setting.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized instruction plans.
Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive devices for individuals with visual impairments.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various school sites.
