A K-12 educational opportunity is available for a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist to provide instruction and support during a maternity leave contract in Elgin, IL. This position involves working closely with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they receive tailored educational support in compliance with individual learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing across K-12 grade levels
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Utilize assistive listening devices and other communication technologies to enhance learning
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly
- Provide guidance and resources to families regarding communication options and educational support
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in alignment with school and district policies
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Experience working with K-12 students with hearing impairments
- Strong knowledge of communication methodologies including sign language and auditory-verbal techniques
- Familiarity with educational tools and assistive technologies for deaf/hard of hearing students
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage a diverse classroom and adapt to individual student needs
