A part-time opportunity for a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is available, serving K-12 students in Southeast Texas. This contract role focuses on supporting the navigation skills and independence of students with visual impairments in a school setting.
Location:
- Aransas Pass, Texas, within the Southeast Texas coastal region
- Services provided onsite in K-12 schools; remote or hybrid work is not applicable
Position Details:
- Contract length: January 5, 2026, through May 28, 2026
- Average weekly commitment: 16 hours, typically spread over two 8-hour days
- Number of assigned schools and exact caseload to be determined
- Student age range: Kindergarten through 12th grade (K-12)
- Requires active OMS Certification along with AVCREP certification or an equivalent credential
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide orientation and mobility instruction tailored to individual student needs
- Work directly with students to improve safe and effective travel skills at school and in the community
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to integrate mobility goals into the educational curriculum
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports
- Participate in ongoing assessments of student needs and program effectiveness
Qualifications:
- Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification
- AVCREP certification or similar recognized credential
- Experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments preferred but not required; 0-10+ years of relevant experience accepted
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support collaboration with educators and families
