A K-12 school in Boston, MA is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to provide vital support to students with visual impairments. This contract position spans the current school year (CSY) and offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in an educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans tailored to students’ needs
  • Provide direct instruction and support to improve students’ spatial awareness, travel skills, and independence
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and related service providers to integrate mobility goals into educational programs
  • Utilize specialized techniques and devices to help students safely navigate school and community environments
  • Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and adjust interventions accordingly

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) or equivalent credentials
  • Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
  • Strong communication skills to effectively work with students, families, and educational teams
  • Ability to adapt instructional techniques to meet diverse learning styles and needs
  • Knowledge of community resources and assistive technology to support mobility goals

Location: Boston, MA
