Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) with up-to-date credentials.
- Previous experience working in schools or with students with visual impairments is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of adapted mobility techniques and assistive technologies.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with students, teachers, families, and administrators.
- Ability to develop individualized plans tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Adaptable, resourceful, and ready to address a backlog of compensatory services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and address students’ mobility and orientation needs within and outside the school setting.
- Deliver direct instruction on travel skills, cane use, and environmental navigation.
- Create and implement compensatory service plans to make up for missed services.
- Document student progress, maintain records, and collaborate on IEPs as needed.
- Work closely with educational teams to integrate mobility strategies into daily routines.
- Advise staff on environmental modifications to ensure safety and accessibility.
