Supporting K-12 students in a Forest, VA school, this contract role offers a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS). The position runs from August 13, 2025, through May 30, 2026, with a manageable commitment of 8 hours per month serving a caseload of four students across elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized orientation and mobility instruction tailored to the unique needs of K-12 students with visual impairments.
  • Conduct weekly sessions for two students and biweekly sessions for two additional students to foster independence and safe navigation.
  • Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to create and implement individualized plans that support each student’s goals.
  • Monitor progress and adjust strategies to ensure optimal development of orientation and mobility skills.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification/license in the state of Virginia.
  • Demonstrated experience working with visually impaired K-12 students.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and school staff.
  • Ability to manage a small but diverse caseload, tailoring instruction to individual student needs.
