Help foster independence and confidence in students with visual impairments by developing and implementing tailored orientation and mobility programs. Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) with current credentials
  • Previous experience working in school settings or with children preferred
  • Solid understanding of O&M assessments and curriculum development
  • Ability to collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to create individualized plans
  • Strong communication and record-keeping abilities
  • Compassionate, resourceful, and adaptable to diverse student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments
  • Develop and implement individualized instruction plans to improve safe, effective navigation skills
  • Teach students strategies for independent travel in school and community environments
  • Consult with teachers, staff, and families to ensure integration of strategies across settings
  • Maintain accurate progress documentation and participate in IEP meetings as needed
  • Provide training and support for staff and caregivers regarding orientation and mobility techniques
