O&M Specialist - Lynchburg, Virginia

A K-12 school in Lynchburg, VA, is seeking a licensed Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for a contract position during the 2025-2026 school year. This role involves providing specialized mobility instruction and support to a small caseload of students with visual impairments.

Location: Lynchburg, VA
Start Date: August 13, 2025
End Date: May 30, 2026
Hours: Approximately 8 hours per month
Caseload: 4 students (1 high school, 1 middle school, 2 elementary)

• 2 students require weekly services
• 2 students require bi-weekly services

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized orientation and mobility plans tailored to each student’s needs
• Provide direct instruction to students to enhance their ability to navigate safely and independently in various environments
• Collaborate with school staff, families, and related service providers to integrate mobility goals within educational programming
• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of services
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to IEP development and review

Qualifications:

• Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification/license in the state of Virginia
• Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to tailor instruction to diverse student needs and environments
