An immediate opening is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in a school setting located in Puyallup, WA. This is a contract position for the current school year (CSY) focused on providing specialized services to visually impaired students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and develop orientation and mobility plans tailored to individual student needs
  • Provide direct instruction in mobility skills, including safe travel techniques in various environments
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other support staff to integrate mobility goals into individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations to track student progress and adjust intervention strategies accordingly
  • Train school staff and families on mobility aids and techniques as needed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Strong knowledge of mobility aids, techniques, and adaptive technology
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an educational setting
