Seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in a dynamic school setting located in Puyallup, WA. This contract position spans the current school year (CSY) and provides an excellent opportunity to apply specialized expertise in facilitating the independence and safety of students with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement orientation and mobility training programs tailored to individual student needs.
  • Assess students' mobility skills and create strategies to enhance their navigation through various environments.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility goals into the overall educational plan.
  • Use adaptive techniques and tools to assist students in gaining confidence and autonomy.
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and provide regular reports to the education team.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Certification or proven experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist.
  • Familiarity with K-12 educational settings and the unique challenges faced by visually impaired students.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to design individualized instruction plans and adapt to diverse student abilities.
