Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Fremont, California

An opportunity awaits for a dedicated professional to support an 11th-grade student requiring in-person O&M services. This contract position is based in Fremont, CA, and focuses on delivering targeted mobility instruction to enhance the student's independence and access to the curriculum.

Qualifications:

• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
• Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, or related field
• Experience working with students with visual impairments
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to develop and implement O&M assessments and goals
• Proficient in using technology to aid in mobility training

Location:

Responsibilities:

• Provide 150 minutes per month of direct Orientation and Mobility instruction
• Assess and analyze the student's mobility needs, focusing on safe navigation and independent travel
• Develop and monitor progress on individualized O&M goals
• Collaborate with educational staff and family to ensure comprehensive support
• Utilize appropriate techniques and tools to enhance the student's mobility skills
• Document and report progress in alignment with scheduled evaluations
