Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Saratoga Springs, New York

An opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support two students with visual impairments during the 2025–2026 academic year near Schenectady, NY. This part-time, contract position will focus on fostering safe and independent travel skills within school and community settings, enhancing student confidence and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized orientation and mobility instruction tailored to each student’s needs
• Collaborate with the special education team to integrate mobility goals into individualized education plans
• Conduct 10 one-hour sessions annually with a 6th-grade student
• Conduct 3 one-hour sessions monthly with an 11th-grade student
• Document progress and communicate effectively with students, families, and educational staff

Qualifications:

• Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
• Experience working with school-aged children is preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
• Background clearance and all required licensure up to date
