A K-12 educational institution in Westerville, OH, is seeking a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) for a full-semester contract role. This opportunity offers the chance to provide specialized support to students with visual impairments, ensuring their safety and independence through expert orientation and mobility training.
Responsibilities include delivering direct services to 5-8 students, averaging 2-4 hours of service per week. The Specialist will also provide consultation to educators and staff, contributing to a collaborative approach in meeting students’ needs. Additionally, the role requires writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs) when applicable, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with educational standards.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
- Experience working with K-12 students, particularly those with visual impairments
- Ability to provide direct intervention as well as consultative support
- Strong skills in developing and writing IEPs and ETRs
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff
Location: Westerville, Ohio
Contract Duration: Full semester, starting as soon as possible through the end of May
Workload: Approximately 2-4 hours of direct service weekly
