An opportunity is available for an experienced paraprofessional to assist in special education classrooms within an elementary school setting in Blue Springs, MO. This role involves supporting students with disabilities, primarily in K-12 environments, focusing mostly on elementary grades, with responsibilities varying across multiple school programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide instructional assistance in special education classrooms supporting children with disabilities.
- Support social/emotional learning in self-contained K-5 settings, utilizing de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies.
- Assist with physical management, mobility, toileting, feeding, and safety for students requiring 1:1 or small group support.
- Aid high school students in functional skills programs, including work skills and foundational academics, facilitating transitions between classes.
- Collaborate with general education staff during subjects such as Health, PE, and Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS).
- Maintain mobility throughout the school environment to actively support students.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience working with children with disabilities, including behavior and aggression management.
- Ability to physically manage students, including mobility and occasional physical support.
- Medical experience or comfort with medical-related tasks such as toileting and feeding.
- Relevant Missouri paraprofessional certification, including one of the following:
- 60 college credit hours,
- ParaPro Assessment passed before September 23, 2013,
- Paraprofessional Assessment through Pearson (between September 23, 2013 and June 20, 2024),
- ParaPro Assessment through ETS (after July 1, 2024),
- Completion of the 20-hour Substitute Certificate Course.
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is a plus.
Location: Blue Springs, MO Schedule: 35 hours per week; contract through the school year.
