An educational assistant role is available to support students with diverse and profound needs in a K-12 setting located in Chimayo, NM. This contract position runs from August 5, 2025, through May 29, 2026, with a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week. Multiple positions are open to meet ongoing needs across elementary, middle, and high school levels.

The successful candidate will provide support in inclusion classrooms and resource/learning centers, primarily focusing on students at the high school and Aspen Elementary School. These students may demonstrate severe disabilities, behavioral challenges, and functional or adaptive needs requiring individualized attention and specialized support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting classroom teachers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Supporting students with behavioral and adaptive needs through positive intervention strategies
  • Motivating and engaging students in academic activities, such as learning letter names and sounds
  • Deescalating challenging behaviors during instruction periods
  • Participating in professional development and specialized training as needed (e.g., CPI, Braille)
  • Ensuring a safe and supportive classroom environment

Qualifications and experience desired:

  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license
  • Possession or ability to obtain an Educational Assistant license and/or Substitute Teacher license (candidates may start while license is in process)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children with disabilities and behavioral challenges
  • Prior classroom experience preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus
