A school district in Huntington Beach, CA is seeking over 50 Bus Aides to support students from kindergarten through 12th grade for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This contract position offers approximately 15 hours per week, designed to provide dedicated assistance during bus transportation times.

Key Details:

  • Location: Huntington Beach, CA
  • Schedule: Approximately 3 hours per day (90 minutes in the morning and 90 minutes in the afternoon)
  • Typical Hours: Between 6:30 am – 8:30 am and 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm, depending on site assignment
  • Contract Duration: January 5, 2026 – May 29, 2026, with the potential to return for Extended School Year (ESY) and the 2026-2027 school year (strong chance of renewal)
  • Caseload: 1:1 or 2:1 bus aide support

Responsibilities:

  • Accompany students during bus rides to and from school, ensuring their safety and comfort
  • Collaborate with drivers by meeting students at designated pickup points (from home to school in the morning, school to home in the afternoon)
  • Provide support for students with special needs by utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques and fostering a calm environment
  • Maintain close communication with school staff and drivers regarding student needs and behavior
  • Previous experience riding the bus with assigned students is preferred

Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a paraprofessional or possession of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential
  • Strong verbal de-escalation skills and a compassionate attitude toward children with special needs
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and patience in a dynamic environment
