A paraprofessional opportunity is available in Kansas City, MO, supporting students within elementary and K-12 special education settings. This contract position involves working 35 hours per week in various schools with a focus on instructional assistance and support for children with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students in self-contained special education classrooms (K-5), assisting with social/emotional learning programs.
- Utilize skills in behavior de-escalation and managing aggression.
- Provide physical assistance when necessary, including mobility support and occasional physical management.
- Work in small groups or 1:1 settings within special education classrooms (K-8), including medical-related tasks such as toileting, lifting, feeding, and mobility.
- Assist high school students in functional skills programs (grades 9-12) by supporting work skills, foundational academics, and general education classes.
- Escort students between classes and assist with daily classroom routines.
Qualifications:
- Required sub certificate or successful completion of one of the following assessments:
- ParaPro Assessment (prior to September 23, 2013),
- Paraprofessional Assessment through Pearson (September 23, 2013 - June 20, 2024),
- ParaPro Assessment through ETS (after July 1, 2024).
- Alternatively, completion of 60 college credit hours or a 20-hour Substitute Certificate Course.
- Experience working with children with disabilities, especially in special education environments.
- Skills in behavior management, de-escalation, and physical mobility support.
- Bonus: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or background in medical assistance.
Location:
- Kansas City, MO area, primarily serving elementary schools but including K-12 settings.
