An opportunity is available for a paraprofessional to provide instructional support in a variety of special education settings within an elementary and secondary school environment in Kansas City, MO. This contract position offers a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week throughout the school year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in special education classrooms serving K-12 students, primarily at the elementary level.
  • Support students with disabilities through instructional assistance, behavior management, and social-emotional learning activities.
  • Participate in self-contained classrooms focusing on de-escalation techniques, behavioral support, and occasionally physical interventions.
  • Provide personal care assistance including toileting, lifting, feeding, and mobility assistance as needed.
  • Facilitate work skills and foundational academics in small group or 1:1 settings for secondary students.
  • Support students with mobility by accompanying them to classes and activities across the school building.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion in subjects such as Health, PE, and Family and Consumer Sciences.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must hold at least 60 college credit hours OR
  • Have successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment or the Paraprofessional Assessment through Pearson or ETS, OR
  • Completed the 20-hour Substitute Certificate Course, meeting Missouri state requirements to work as an Instructional Assistant.
  • Previous experience working with children with disabilities is essential.
  • Familiarity with behavior de-escalation, aggression management, and social-emotional learning programs.
  • Physical ability to provide mobility and occasional physical management.
  • Bonus: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or medical experience is preferred.
