Reading ELA Reading Specialist - Stamford, CT

A middle school is seeking a dedicated Reading Specialist to provide targeted support and intervention for students in grades 6-8. This contract position is to cover a leave and requires expertise in general education with a strong emphasis on English Language Arts (ELA) and reading instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver specialized reading instruction tailored to students’ diverse learning needs.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to reinforce literacy skills across content areas.
• Assess student reading levels and progress using research-based tools.
• Develop and implement individualized reading plans and interventions.
• Support students in building foundational literacy competencies to promote academic success.
• Participate in team meetings and communicate regularly with staff, students, and families.

Desired Qualifications:

• Certification or proven experience as a Reading Specialist.
• Background in general education, specifically ELA instruction.
• Strong knowledge of reading assessment methods and intervention strategies.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
• Experience working in a middle school setting preferred.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
