A dedicated registered nurse is sought to provide one-on-one nursing care for an elementary student in a specialized K-12 school environment in the Syracuse, NY area. This position focuses on delivering compassionate, skillful support to a non-verbal first-grade student requiring tracheostomy care and suctioning, along with assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as feeding. The opportunity allows for a meaningful impact on the student’s health and educational experience within a supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive tracheostomy monitoring and suctioning for a non-verbal student
- Assist with feeding and other ADLs to promote student comfort and well-being
- Offer academic support aligned with educational goals
- Supervise the student during elective classes outside special education
- Maintain a safe, nurturing environment with no aggressive behaviors involved
- Collaborate with educational and healthcare staff to uphold individualized care plans
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Current RN license with experience in school nursing or similar healthcare settings
- Strong clinical skills in tracheostomy care and pediatric nursing
- Ability to support ADLs and deliver compassionate care tailored to individual needs
- Effective communication skills; bilingual Spanish proficiency is highly advantageous
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to a Monday–Friday schedule (7:30 a.m. – 2:30/3:00 p.m.)
This is a contract assignment extending through the school year, with a start date to be determined and an hourly compensation range of $38 to $45. The schedule includes a duty-free lunch break; if all duties are completed early, nurses may leave at 2:30 p.m. while still receiving full-day pay.
