A unique opportunity has arisen for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a 6th-grade student in a middle school setting located in Mapleton, ME. This in-person position is set to commence at the start of the 2024-2025 school year and focuses on providing one-on-one interpretation services, facilitating effective communication and enriching the student's educational experience.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., NIC, SC:L).
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong ability to interpret in educational settings.
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and the student’s support team.

Location:

  • Mapleton, ME

Responsibilities:

  • Provide continuous sign language interpretation for the student throughout the school day.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to ensure effective communication and support the student’s learning.
  • Attend meetings and participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) discussions as required.
  • Adapt interpreting techniques to meet the varied needs of the student and the classroom environment.
