Step into a rewarding role supporting hard of hearing and deaf students in an engaging school environment near Chico, CA. This full-time position, offered as a contract for the 2026-2027 school year (and available for immediate start), provides approximately 30 hours per week. You’ll work onsite at the elementary and intermediate school level, helping bridge communication between students, their peers, educators, and staff.

Qualifications & Desired Experience

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
  • Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf or assessment scores of 4.0+ (EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI); EIPA under 4.0 also considered (will be referred to as ASL Para)
  • AA degree with fluency in ASL also accepted
  • Prior experience in educational settings or working with children/youth is a plus
  • Comfortable facilitating both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members

Role & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate essential communication among hard of hearing/deaf students, their classmates, and teachers
  • Interpret classroom lessons, discussions, and activities
  • Assist students with academic coursework and the development of vocational or daily living skills
  • Monitor and support students during a variety of school or community activities
  • Adapt to elementary or intermediate school caseloads based on your preference
  • Maintain professionalism and student confidentiality at all times
