Sign Language Interpreter – Gardner, KS (Elementary School)
A contracted Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support an elementary school student onsite, with a flexible schedule of 3 to 5 days per week during the current school year (CSY). This role is based in Gardner, KS, with regular school hours from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Some Wednesdays operate on an early release schedule of 2:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation services for an elementary student, ensuring effective communication and full accessibility during classroom instruction
- Support the student’s educational success by facilitating communication between the student, teachers, and peers
- Adapt smoothly to onsite interpreting, with a virtual schedule option available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays if necessary
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the school’s policies and procedures
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably within a school or educational setting
- Strong knowledge of elementary-level educational terminology and vocabulary in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
- Flexibility to accommodate shifting schedules, including early-release days
- Commitment to supporting students with hearing impairments through clear and accurate interpretation
