A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available in a K-12 school setting located in Gridley, CA. This contract role spans the current school year through May 28, 2026, providing approximately 30 hours per week (6 hours per day) onsite. The position supports elementary and intermediate students, with opportunities to express your location preference.
Key responsibilities include facilitating communication between hard of hearing and deaf students and their hearing peers, teachers, and school personnel. You will provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting and assist students with academic subjects such as reading, writing, math, as well as vocational and living skills. Monitoring students during classroom, outdoor, and community activities is also required.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf or a minimum score of 4.0 on assessments such as EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI
- Candidates with an EIPA score under 4.0 may be considered and referred as ASL Para professionals
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- An associate degree (AA) is preferred for candidates without certification
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively with school-age children
