Step into a meaningful role as a Full-Time Sign Language Interpreter supporting educational success across a district just outside Joliet, IL. Your expertise will empower students and foster inclusive classroom environments by removing communication barriers district-wide. Throughout the school day, you’ll collaborate with teachers, staff, and families, providing essential interpreting services wherever needed—from classrooms to school events.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong receptive and expressive skills
  • Previous experience in a school setting or working with students preferred
  • Ability to interpret complex educational material accurately and clearly
  • Professional certification in Sign Language Interpreting (such as EIPA, RID, or Illinois credential)
  • Strong sense of discretion, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability
  • Willingness to travel between locations within the district

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken communication into sign language (and vice versa) for students, staff, and families throughout the school day
  • Provide interpreting services in a variety of classroom environments, assemblies, and school functions
  • Foster positive, collaborative relationships with educators and support teams to ensure student needs are fully met
  • Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation regarding student interactions
  • Participate in IEP meetings or staff conferences as needed
  • Assist with developing resources or strategies to help the school community better accommodate Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing individuals
