A full-time Sign Language Interpreter is needed to support K-12 students in a dynamic school environment located in Kalamazoo, MI. This contract position begins ASAP and extends through June 5th, 2026, offering 35 hours per week. The role provides the opportunity to work with a range of age groups, with placements tailored to your preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and staff through sign language interpreting
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusion in the classroom by accurately conveying content and instructions
  • Collaborate with educational teams to support individualized learning goals
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics in all interactions
  • Adapt interpreting methods to meet diverse student needs and classroom settings

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with verified interpreting skills
  • Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings preferred
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and educational practices
  • Ability to work full time (35 hours/week) and commit through contract duration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible, student-centered approach
