A full-time signing professional is needed to provide sign language interpretation services for one student in a K-12 school setting. This position offers a contract opportunity based in Kasilof, AK, serving either an elementary or middle school student, as the final placement is pending.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering accurate and effective American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation tailored to the student’s educational needs
- Supporting communication between the student, teachers, and peers to facilitate inclusion and learning
- Collaborating with school staff to ensure accessible instruction and participate in team meetings as needed
- Adhering to professional and ethical standards in all interpreter duties
Qualifications:
- Minimum of an associate degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution
- Educational Interpreters in Alaska must have earned a score of 4.0 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and passed the Educational Interpreter Knowledge Assessment
- Candidates with an EIPA score of 3.0 may be considered if they commit to taking the EIPA again and achieving a 4.0 score within two years of employment
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to accessible education for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
