A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available within a K-12 school setting in Magalia, CA. This contract role, with an expected duration through the current school year ending May 28, 2026, focuses on facilitating communications and educational access for hard of hearing and deaf students across elementary and intermediate grade levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear sign language interpreting services, including both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign translation, to support students in classroom and community environments.
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and hearing peers to ensure inclusive communication.
  • Assist students with academic subjects such as reading, writing, and math, as well as vocational and life skills development.
  • Monitor students during various school and outdoor activities to maintain safety and support.
  • Adapt support based on grade-level needs and candidate preferences between elementary and intermediate students.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf or a score of 4.0 or above on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments is required.
  • Candidates with an EIPA score below 4.0 may be considered and classified as ASL Paraprofessionals.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and possession of an Associate’s degree are also acceptable.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Willingness to work onsite, approximately 30 hours per week (6 hours per day).
