ASL Interpreter | Statesville, North Carolina

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) is needed to support K-12 students in a school setting located in Statesville, North Carolina. This contract position is for the current school year (CSY) and offers an opportunity to provide essential communication access to students with hearing impairments in an educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction and school activities
• Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and hearing peers
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure equal access to educational content
• Assist in one-on-one and group settings, adapting interpretation based on student needs
• Maintain confidentiality and support inclusive learning environments

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting experience in educational settings
• Certification or relevant credentials in sign language interpreting preferred
• Knowledge of K-12 educational terminology and environments
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and families
• Patience, flexibility, and cultural sensitivity to support diverse student populations
